In Partnership with Blue Zones Project. These free classes are open to PLU students, faculty, and staff!

We are thrilled to share that one of PLU's own, Rachel Howard with the COHP, will be partnering with Blue Zones in leading the 30 min Yoga Series being offered every 'Tuesday' at a new time 12:15-12:45 pm.

The upcoming yoga series will incorporate breathwork and meditation, alongside a gentle yoga sequence. A survey will be provided to attendees, pertaining to yoga styles and offerings. Guests are encouraged to complete this survey to provide input on the style of yoga they are hoping to familiarize themselves with during this time.

Remember, the practice of yoga is the practice of grace and openness. Therefore, there are no wrong answers. Merely curiosity on how we can meet the interests, grow excitement, and have some fun.

Yoga is for the mind, body, and soul - and all are welcome, whether you are new to yoga, or an experienced yogi. The hardest part is to make it to the mat (or chair), but we are stronger together and your presence is magical. Rest assured that this 30 minutes of wellness is restorative, not high endurance. No need for athletic gear, as you can return to your regular schedule without fearing the effects of an intensive (and smelly) workout :)

Dinner Church is a table-centered expression of church that reclaims one of the most ancient and most human practices - sharing a meal. Richard D. Moe Organ Recital Series: Christa Rakich, Organist

Battle of the Sexes

Christa Rakich has championed the music of women composers throughout her long and distinguished career. In her program titled “Battle of the Sexes,” she will playfully juxtapose works written by both men and women. Her program will include works by Johannes Brahms and Ethel Smyth, who had a personal (and sometime contentious) relationship with one another, along with music written by Edith Boroff, Margaretha Christina de Jong, and PLU Professor Emeritus David Dahl.

Concert and recording artist Christa Rakich performs widely throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. She also serves as Visiting Professor of Organ at Oberlin Conservatory, where she teaches organ, clavichord, and improvisation. Former positions include New England Conservatory (department co-chair), Westminster Choir College, Brandeis University, the University of Connecticut, and the Memorial Church at Harvard. She studied at Oberlin College, the New England Conservatory, and the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, where she was a Fulbright Scholar and student of Anton Heiller. Her compositions are published by Oxford University Press, with many available for free on IMSLP or www.christarakich.com.

PLU alum Sam Ellefson ’19, originally from Minnesota and now based in Denver, launched his comedy career through PLU’s grassroots comedy show, Late Knight, which earned two Northwest Emmy nominations. Sam is the ultimate middle child whose down-to-earth Midwest storytelling style combines with his charm and quick wit to have you laughing hard in your seat. Sam’s comedy has been featured in festivals across the country including the prestigious High Plains Comedy Festival and he regularly works at some of the best clubs west of the Mississippi. He is a regular at the world famous Comedy Works in Denver and won the 2025 Comedy Fort’s Funniest Competition.

Join PLU University Organist Justin J. Murphy-Mancini for a concert dedicated to paining the organ with a variety of instruments. Works featuring cello, flute, and violin will be performed by PLU faculty Mara Finkelstein, Jennifer Rhyne, and Svend Rønning. Dr. J will join with the PLU percussion ensemble, Miho Takekawa, and other guests to perform the rarely-heard Concerto for Organ and Percussion Orchestra by famed American composer Lou Harrison.

The Religion Department of the College of Liberal Studies welcomes you to the 21st Annual David and Marilyn Knutson Lecture. This year's lecture will be given by Dr. H. Daniel Zacharias (Acadia Divinity College) and Dr. T. Christopher Hoklotubbe (Bexley Seabury Seminary). The title of their lecture is, “Reading the Bible within the Community of Creation.”

What changes when we read the Bible as part of a larger community that includes the earth and our more-than-human kin?

This lecture explores what difference an Indigenous perspective that embraces creational kinship brings to interpreting Christian Scripture. For example, Danny and Chris will survey biblical stories and descriptions concerning “the land” and show how ancient Hebrew relationships with and understandings of land resonate with Indigenous life ways and values.

Reading the Bible alongside of Indigenous stories can illuminate the ancient significance of these stories for their earliest audiences in ways that modern Western readings have often obscured.

This hybrid event will also be livestreamed and remains free and open to the entire PLU campus, community, and public.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by William Finn, with a book written by Rachel Sheinkin, created by Rebecca Feldman with additional material by Jay Reiss. The show centers on a fictional spelling bee, set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School, some students being from various elementary schools. These six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally quirky grown-ups.
