Sam is the ultimate middle child whose down-to-earth Midwest storytelling style combines with his charm and quick wit to have you laughing hard in your seat. Sam’s comedy has been featured in festivals across the country including the prestigious High Plains Comedy Festival and he regularly works at some of the best clubs west of the Mississippi. He is a regular at the world famous Comedy Works in Denver and won the 2025 Comedy Fort’s Funniest Competition.

This year's lecture will be given by Dr. T. Christopher Hoklotubbe (Bexley Seabury Seminary). The lecture title is, “Reading the Bible within the Community of Creation.”

What changes when we read the Bible as part of a larger community that includes the earth and our more-than-human kin?

This lecture explores what difference an Indigenous perspective that embraces creational kinship brings to interpreting Christian Scripture. For example, Chris will survey biblical stories and descriptions concerning “the land” and show how ancient Hebrew relationships with and understandings of land resonate with Indigenous life ways and values.

Reading the Bible alongside of Indigenous stories can illuminate the ancient significance of these stories for their earliest audiences in ways that modern Western readings have often obscured.

This hybrid event will also be livestreamed and remains free and open to the entire PLU campus, community, and public.
