Callista Brown Common Reading Lecture

Please join us for the 3rd annual Callista Brown Common Reading lecture – Slavery Now – Imagining Violence and Change in Octavia Butler’s Kindred: The Graphic Novel as Adapted by Damien Duffy and John Jennings, presented by Alison Mandaville, associate professor of English, Fresno State University.

Alison Mandaville has been teaching and writing about comic and graphic novels for nearly 20 years. Her scholarly work focuses on violence and social justice; she is interested in how narrative and play with language – including visual language – can support human insight and connections. She has presenter her work on comics at many conferences including Comi-Con ,Wonder-Con, Geek-Girl Con (where Super Girl sat in the front row!).
